The Unpacked conference, organized on August 10 by Samsung, is dedicated to many products, starting with its folding smartphones, united under the “Z” banner. In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in “book” format, the Korean is renewing its clamshell smartphone with a Galaxy Z Flip 4 that looks very similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 looks almost exactly like the Z Fold 3, and so does the Z Flip 4, which is almost identical to the Z Flip 3. The small space that separates the two parts of its screen when folded is still visible, the small bulge of its panel when it is open also, and if Samsung promises a thinner hinge, the difference is minimal. The smartphone has very slightly more compact dimensions than its predecessor – it is 71.9 mm wide, against 72.2 mm for the Z Flip 3 – and 84.9 mm high (against 86.4 mm), although it retains a 6.7-inch Full HD+ interior screen. The resistance of the hinge is always important, allowing both not to close it too quickly and to keep the smartphone half-open to take advantage of its Flex mode.
This Dynamic Amoled 2X panel maintains a 22:9 ratio, and a refresh rate varying from 1 to 120 Hz. The exterior screen of the smartphone is protected, like the internal display, by a Gorilla Glass Victus + window, the most high to date. Let’s add that the smartphone is IPx8 certified, like its predecessor, which guarantees its resistance to immersion in water.
Few changes are to be noted in the field of technical characteristics. The device logically benefits from Qualcomm’s latest chip, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, flanked by 8 GB of RAM. However, it is entitled to an interesting novelty: its battery, limited to 3300 mAh on the Flip 3, displays 3700 mAh, which gives hope for increased autonomy. On the other hand, no change is to be noted in terms of charging, still limited to 25 W, or even photography. The smartphone thus offers two sensors of 12 megapixels each, with wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle optics.
More interactions with the Cover Display
The outer screen of the Z Flip 4 (Cover Display), which is one of its strengths, retains its 1.9-inch diagonal. It is at the software level that its strengths lie, since we note the presence of new widgets and the possibility of obtaining more interactions. The user can now respond quickly to messages via predefined phrases or emojis, he gains a more precise calendar, more quick settings or the possibility of making payments thanks to Samsung Pay closed screen, with security via recognition of his face.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4, which appears as an update to the Flip 3, is charged a few euros more. It is indeed announced at 1109 € in its least expensive version (128 GB), against 1059 € for the Flip 3. Count 1169 € and 1289 € for the 256 and 512 GB versions of the smartphone, all available from August 26 . A pre-order offer offered today allows you to benefit from a trade-in of another mobile up to 150 €.
