Gerard Pique has announced an abrupt end to his career

Gerard Pique surprised the football world and announced that he will end his career very soon – this coming weekend.

On Saturday, the experienced defender of Barcelona will play his last game with the Catalan team and in general in his football career. The match is against Almeria and will be Pique’s #616 with his hometown club.

“I decided now is the time to close the loop. I always said there will be no other team after Barcelona and that’s how it will be. On Saturday I will play my last game at Camp Nou,” Pique said in a video on social media.

The last year was a nightmare for him and he lost his starting place at Barca and then split with his wife Shakira.

The 35-year-old veteran is a true legend and was a leading figure in arguably Barcelona’s strongest squad in history.

He returned to Catalonia in 2008, having previously entered men’s football with Manchester United.

Pique is in his 15th season at the Camp Nou and has a total of 30 trophies, including 8 Spanish titles, three Champions League Cups, 7 Copa del Rey, six Spanish Super Cups, 3 European Super Cups and three Club World Cups.

With Spain, he won the world and European titles.
