George Clooney has revealed why his proposal to his wife was a disaster

George Clooney has described his marriage proposal to Amal as a “disaster” after the human rights lawyer initially thought the 7-carat diamond ring belonged to one of his ex-girlfriends.

“It was a disaster, I planned the whole thing down to the last detail”the actor told Drew Barrymore on Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

The “Oceans Eleven” actor noted that he had planned to get Amal, 44, to grab something from the drawer where the ring was kept while his aunt Rosemary Clooney’s song “Why Shouldn’t I” played. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse when the lawyer discovered the ring and thought it belonged to one of Clooney’s ex-girlfriends.

“She took something out of this little drawer, and in it was a diamond ring”the Oscar winner continues. “She looked at him and said, “There’s a ring there. It’s like someone left a ring there years ago. And I was on my knees…”he jokes.

After 20 minutes of the lawyer saying “‘Oh my God, my God,'” she finally said yes.

The couple tied the knot just five months after the chaotic proposal in front of their closest friends and family in a lavish ceremony in Italy.

The couple, who recently celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary in style, have 5-year-old twins.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings last month, the actor revealed that the couple’s plan to teach their children a second language backfired.

“We made a terrible mistake”the actor told host Gayle King. “We taught them Italian.”

“But we don’t speak Italian. So we’ve armed them with a language they can use to hurt us. We both don’t really know what they’re saying.”he joked, adding, “I’m from Kentucky. English is my second language.”
