It’s the effervescence in the “ready-to-use salad” section. The Florette brand announces the arrival, in November 2021, of a recyclable paper salad bag. Validated by the organizations in charge of the recycling sectors in France, this bag made up “mostly of paper” – it is lined with a single-layer plastic film to guarantee its tightness – can be recovered for domestic sorting. The brand announces the saving of almost 40% of plastic thanks to this packaging, used, initially, for its “ecological” range – Agrilogique, references without pesticide residues – before being extended in the coming months to other references in supermarkets. In two years, Florette has already reduced the amount of plastic in its salad bags by 25%.

According to Florette, this is “the culmination of several months of research”, between Florette’s R&D teams and packaging suppliers, and “major industrial investments”. The packaging was co-developed with consumers to best meet their requirements: in addition to recyclability, the bag has “transparency windows” to allow customers to control the quality and freshness of the product.

Packaging: Florette’s 3 “R” method

“This innovative packaging, which combines paper and transparency, is a decisive first step for the market. […] We do not intend to stop there, and we continue to work on ever more sustainable technical solutions for the future on all of our ranges”comments Pierre Meliet, general manager of Florette France, in a press release.

To design more responsible packaging, Florette applies the “3R method” to “reduce”, “recycle”, and “reuse”. The manufacturer is thus seeking to reduce the size and thickness of its packaging: compared to its practices in 2018, Florette saves 180 tonnes of plastic per year. As for recycling, the brand announces that in 2021, all the rigid packaging of the Florette ranges (trays, trays, bottles, etc.) will be made of recyclable mono-material. Florette also integrates the “circular economy” dimension: more than 22% of the plastic used in the brand’s packaging is of recycled origin.
