Five-time European club champion Gareth Bale has ended his career

Welsh football legend Gareth Bale has surprisingly announced that he is ending his active career at just 33 years old.

The former Southampton, Tottenham and Real Madrid player leaves behind a career of five Champions League titles, three La Liga titles and three Club World Cup titles.

Bale announced his retirement with an emotional post on social media. He last played in the American Los Angeles, with which he became the champion of Major League Soccer.

“I feel very privileged to have realized my dream of playing the sport I love. It has given me the best moments of my life. I have been at the highest level for 17 seasons and that is irreplaceable no matter what the next episode in my life will be .

From my first touch in Southampton to my last in Los Angeles, I have shaped a career that I am proud and grateful for. I played for my country 111 times and was captain, which is a dream come true. It is impossible to express all my gratitude to everyone who helped me on this adventure. These people have changed my life and shaped my career in ways I never dreamed of when I started playing at the age of 9.

To my clubs Southampton, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Los Angeles and to all the managers, coaches, staff, teammates, fans, friends and family, your role is irreplaceable,” wrote Bale, who also thanked his wife and children.
