Max Verstappen is considered one of the most incredible drivers in F1 history. Although the Dutchman is not yet 25, David Coulthard believes the Red Bull driver’s exceptional talent ranks him among the sport’s greatest names.

Verstappen has 30 wins and 72 podiums since entering Formula 1 in 2015. Last year he also became world champion and dethroned Lewis Hamilton.

Since the start of the 2022 season, the Red Bull rider has been in incredible form. After the first 15 rounds of the campaign, Verstappen leads the general classification by 109 points ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. Thus, he can win a second world title already in Japan or the USA.

Apart from Verstappen’s remarkable achievements on the track, Coulthard has been most impressed by his exceptional skills and unwavering consistency.

“If you look at last year and the way he took the title, he was like a phenomenon. His performance was outstanding,” Coulthard said.

“From the moment he entered the sport, he resembled legends like Senna, Schumacher or Hamilton. He came ready to win the championship.”

“Verstappen didn’t come as an absolute rookie and learn everything at once. I know I admire him too much. Although he is only 24 years old, he is an incredible competitor.”

“I was never like him, but I appreciate hard work and success. He [Макс] is a man who raised the whole of the Netherlands. Regardless of how many titles he wins, Verstappen is already one of the greatest drivers in F1.”

Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher currently share the record for most wins in a single campaign. The two Germans recorded 13 successes in 2013 and 2004.

Coutard believes that Verstappen will improve the record of the former world champions. So far, the Red Bull driver has won 10 of 15 starts this season.

“He can beat that record,” said the former F1 driver. In his long career in the sport, Coulthard recorded 13 victories with the Williams and McLaren teams.

“Red Bull’s pace is very good, while Mattia Binotto is worried about Ferrari’s lack of pace. I believe Max Verstappen can win more than 13 first places. He doesn’t even need them for the championship, but the Red Bull team is looking to win every race until the end of the year and crush any competition,” concluded David Coulthard.
