Conte furious over VAR: They won’t disallow a goal like that from a big team

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte had harsh words for the use of VAR in football after his side were denied qualification for the Champions League knockout stages due to a late goal disallowance.

Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon drew 1-1 in London, but Harry Kane’s 95th-minute goal was ruled out in highly controversial circumstances for offside.

It came after Ivan Perisic’s cross from the right wing was headed away by Emerson Royal to Kane before the England international scored. There was wild jubilation at White Hart Lane that lasted for several minutes before VAR disallowed the goal for Kane’s foul.

The situation is about centimeters, and it seems even more controversial given the fact that Emerson is in a more forward position than his teammate, but the ball is clearly not.

Conte was furious at the decision and was sent off with a straight red card, which will leave him on the bench for the crucial game in Marseille in the last round on November 1. Spurs currently lead with eight points, while Sporting and Eintracht Frankfurt have seven each and the French six.

“The ball was in front of Kane and the goal is a goal. I don’t understand VAR and this line they put. It’s very difficult to comment on such a decision. VAR causes a lot of damage and now we have to accept it.

I want to see in another stadium how they will cancel such a goal for a big team. I feel a great injustice and see nothing positive in the whole thing. I am very disappointed because I do not see any justice in such a situation. After the decision, we were all unhappy, but they showed me a red card because I’m the most popular person on the pitch.

We deserved to win and I hope the club understands that it has to be strong after a moment like this. We need a point in the next game but I don’t see why we had to wait for it when we could have qualified tonight,” said the disgruntled Italian.
