Communities, polls, video calls… WhatsApp is full of new features

WhatsApp regularly tries to enrich its application and proposes, this November 3, a functional change of size. In addition to groups, the messaging application will now allow the creation of WhatsApp communities. These communities could for example be in the name of a company and integrate sub-groups. Taking the example of Digitalthe dedicated community where all employees would be added could include a group for the news service, another for tests or yet another for the organization of sports sessions.

“Neighborhood associations, parents of students or even companies can now organize themselves into WhatsApp communities and manage conversations in several connected groups.says the company in a blog post. To get started, tap the new Communities tab at the top of your chats on Android, or at the bottom on iOS. You can then create a community and add new or existing groups to it.”

WhatsApp also announces three other features: the creation of polls in chats, video calls for up to 32 people and groups for up to 1024 members. Like emoji reactions, larger file sharing, and the ability for admins to delete messages, these features can be used in any group, but are especially aimed at communities.

With these features, WhatsApp’s ambitions are beyond doubt: to compete with messaging and professional applications such as Slack or even Discord. The Communities feature will be available to everyone in the coming months.

WhatsApp is a free and secure instant messenger that allows you to keep in touch with all your friends or family, you can download and install it on all platforms.
