Chelsea set a world record in football – Football World – England
Todd Bowley, upon his arrival, made a serious request that he would continue the case of the previous owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich. However, few expected what happened next.
According to renowned journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea have broken the world record for the most money spent on transfers in one season. The Blues have currently spent £611m (€691m), with bonuses included. Londoners gave this amount for 17 new players, which is good news for Graham Potter.
A problem could be that only three of the eight January signings can be registered for the knockout stages of the Champions League and one needs to be dropped, likely to be goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
Graham Potter now has 33 first-team players after Hakim Ziyech’s move to PSG fell through. By all appearances, Omari Hutchinson, Lewis Hall, Slonina, Andrej Santos and Datro Fofana will mostly play for Chelsea’s second team.
Chelsea spent a world record smashing £611m (including add-ons) on 17 new players in 2022-23. That’s, of course, good news for Graham Potter.
But he can only register three of the eight new signings for the knockout stage and must de-select one player, probably Bettinelli.
