The 40-year-old pop icon had a “cyber romance” with Prince William
She is known as the Queen of Pop. This is Britney Spears, about to become Queen of England one day.
The 40-year-old American singer had a “cyber romance” with Prince William. This happens at the time when they were both teenagers, but things fell apart, writes the dailymail.
In 2002, on a talk show with host Frank Skinner, Britney shared that she corresponded with the Duke of Cambridge by email and even invited him to dinner during her UK tour.
Then Britney is at the height of her fame, having just released her hits ‘Baby One More Time’ and ‘Oops! I Did It Again’.
Unfortunately, the singer’s chances of being with the handsome Duke of Cambridge were dashed when he cut her off.
“We exchanged emails for a short time and he was supposed to come see us, but things didn’t work out in the end,” Britney, 20, shared at the time.
“You were played by Prince William?” the interviewer asks, and Britney replies, “Yes, it happened.”
Britney, who at the time of this interview was dating singer Justin Timberlake, shared that she had no idea why Prince William was canceling their date.
An article in Britain’s The Sun has since mentioned that the prince preferred to go fox hunting instead of meeting the pop diva.
Months before Britney’s interview, there were rumors of an internet romance between the two, but Buckingham Palace denied them.
In September last year, royal biographer Christopher Andersen shared details of the singer’s online affair with Prince William.
“They tried to bond when they were young,” the author claims in his book Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan.
“There may have been phone conversations, but I can’t remember if they were able to meet during that period,” adds Andersen.
In 2003, Prince William began dating his current wife, Kane Middleton. Meanwhile, Britney broke up with Justin Timberlake in late 2002 under tumultuous circumstances.
She then married her childhood sweetheart Jason Allen Alexander for a year and later began a relationship with dancer Kevin Federline, with whom she had 2 children. They divorced in 2007.
Britney met her current husband, dancer Sam Asgari, in 2016 and the couple married in 2022.
