Bayern Munich drew 1:1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga 4th round derby. The Bavarians played a very strong game, but were stopped by the great goalkeeper of the “colts” Jan Sommer. Marcus Thuram gave the visitors the lead and Leroy Sane equalized.
The Swiss guard made 20 saves and had two goals canceled out by the champions.
Bayern remains at the top of the provisional standings with 10 points, the same as Union Berlin. Gladbach is sixth with two points less.
The Bavarians could have taken the lead after 2 minutes, but Sommer masterfully saved Dayo Upamecano’s header. Two misses followed by Leroy Sane, who first shot over the goal and then missed the goal with his header.
In the 36th minute, Thomas Müller sent a parallel pass to Sadio Mane, who intercepted in the goal, but after a VAR review, the Senegalese was ruled an offside. Three minutes later, the African’s goal was again missed, again due to an ambush.
In the 43rd minute, the “foals” struck their blow. Christoph Kramer took the ball and set up an excellent counter-attack where he brought Thuram alone against Manuel Neuer and the Frenchman made no mistake.
The second half started with a dangerous header by Müller. In the 60th minute, Sommer deflected Sane’s shot. In the 72nd minute, the Swiss intervened after a shot by Gnabry, and shortly after by Muller.
Bayern’s pressure paid off in the 83rd minute when Jamal Musiala found Sane at the penalty spot and the attacking midfielder’s pinpoint strike left Sommer no chance.
Until the end of the game, the Bavarians looked for the victory, but the visitors’ goalkeeper saved shots from Alphonso Davies and Mathais de Licht. Thus, Bayern have not won against Gladbach for four games.
