Barcelona and Manchester City put on a real show in the charity friendly match played at Camp Nou and ended 3:3. Funds raised from the sale of tickets to the meeting went towards research to find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay scored the goals for the hosts, while Julian Alvarez, Cole Palmer and Riyad Mahrez scored for the “citizens”.
The match at Camp Nou offered the audience many interesting situations and, above all, many goals.
The goals started raining in the first half, and in the 21st minute the guests took advantage of a ridiculous mistake by the Barça goalkeeper Iñaki Peña. He dropped the ball and it went to Julián Alvarez, who did not forgive his mistake and gave Man City the lead.
The Citizens’ lead lasted just 8 minutes, with just before the half-hour mark Rafinha crossed well from a free-kick to the right of Man City’s goal. The ball reached the far post, where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was, who with a wonderful volley did not leave Stefan Ortega a chance – 1:1.
After the break, there was another exchange of goals, and this time the Catalans struck first. Kevin de Bruyne misses a pass and the ball goes to Gavi. He passed to Memphis Depay, and the Dutchman found his compatriot Frenkie de Jong in front of the goal and from there the midfielder sent the ball into the net of the champions of England.
Three minutes later, the “citizens” equalized. After some good play, the ball found its way to Joao Cancelo on the right wing. The Portuguese saw Cole Palmer in the center and passed to him, and the youngster coolly scored – 2:2.
In the 79th minute, Barca took the lead again. Sergi Roberto was then brought to the right wing. Without delay, he flicked a ground pass to the penalty spot where Depay was left unguarded and effortlessly slotted the ball into the net.
Late in the match, play was halted after young centre-back Luke Mbete suffered a collision and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher.
In the seventh minute of stoppage time, a much-debated penalty was awarded after Erling Holland went down in the penalty area after hooking Andreas Christensen’s leg himself. Behind the ball stood Riyad Mahrez, who equalized in the 99th minute, and this result did not change until the end of the match.
