Arsenal and Barcelona legend hospitalized with stroke – World Football
Former Arsenal, Ajax and Barcelona player Marc Overmars has been rushed to hospital after suffering a ‘mild stroke’.
The information came from Royal Antwerp, for whom Overmars currently works as sporting director. Here is what the Belgian club wrote:
“Mark Overmars did not feel well on Thursday evening and was rushed to hospital with a minor stroke. His condition is good, but he needs time to recover. Mark and his family are focused on exactly that and do not want to comment further. From Antwerp, we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Overmars, 49, previously worked at Ajax in his native Netherlands. He left in February and signed with Antwerp shortly after.
Overmars’ strongest period as a footballer was at Ajax. Then he won the Eredivisie three times and the Champions League once.
In 1997, he was attracted by Arsenal. On the Island in three seasons he became a legend and is in one of the best wings in the world.
Overmars became the most expensive Dutch player when Barcelona bought him for £25 million. However, a knee injury prematurely ended his career in 2004.
The winger has 86 caps for the Netherlands He returned to football in 2008/09, playing one season for his hometown team Go Ahead Eagles before finally hanging up his boots.
