Bulgarian defender Martin Georgiev received recognition from the popular English publication The Guardian, which every year compiles a ranking of the 60 most promising young footballers in the world.
The youth of Slavia, who moved to Barcelona earlier in the summer, also made it into the current ranking.
At the moment, the defender is part of the backup team of the Catalans, but he has already recorded training sessions with the representative team of Barca. The 17-year-old youth international of Bulgaria played 6 games for the men’s team of Slavia last season before leaving for Spain.
“Almost three decades after Hristo Stoichkov’s success and Ballon d’Or in Barcelona, Bulgarian football fans are once again hoping to see their compatriot leave his mark in Spanish football. This summer, the talented Georgiev transferred to Barca’s La Masia academy from Slavia . He is physically fit, but at the same time meets the club’s incredibly high demands from a tennis point of view. Georgiev was one of the main players for Bulgaria at this year’s European Junior Championship in Israel. There he also showed his goalscoring skills, opening the scoring in the first match of the tournament against the Netherlands,” the publication wrote.
“My big goal is to break into the first team of Barcelona and reach the top,” says the footballer himself.
